We first saw the Santa Cruz model at NAMM 2011 and were immediately impressed with Scott’s work and this model. The Santa Cruz is a double cutaway, 24 fret, 25” scale guitar. This Santa Cruz has a hand selected exquisite quilt top and is finished in a shaded Natural Gloss finish, with a figured curly mahogany body. This guitar has a nice dark BRW neck and BRW package - solid 1-piece Brazilian rosewood neck, fingerboard, and pickup rings. Scale length is 25” with a 14” radius and 1&11/16” nut. Jescar 47104 frets give a nice feel. As the ex-Neck guy for Santa Cruz guitars, you know that Scott’s necks are always top notch and this one does not disappoint. Walker Custom inlays and Scott’s Unique Ivoroid binding give a great feel to the neck edge and nice finished look to the headstock. Lollar Low-Wind pickups with Scott’s electronics package provide great clarity, a special sweet tone, and large bite. The electronics package includes Scott’s Jangletone 2 preamp with a Gain knob. It also has a volume, tone, and three way toggle pickup selector, with single coil and preamp bypass mini toggle switches. The sonic flexibility in this guitar is incredible, maybe the best we’ve experienced from any builder. And finally, gold hardware embellishes the tonewoods to give it a classy timeless look.
What more can you ask for? Killer looks, great playability with a fantastic Brazilian Rosewood neck and figured Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, and awesome sound suitable for all genre of music.
Wow, a superlative guitar!
