This guitar is one of the very first Rietbergens made. It is a phenomenal semi-acoustic 335-sized instrument. It has an “Old Natural” Highgloss finish over just perfect Mastergrade West Coast Curly flamed maple sides and back with a figured and flamed South American mahogany body.
I am a huge fan of instruments with nice clear tops, that are nicely quartersawn and bookmatched. It is very hard to find pieces that are as clear and nice, with no porous fill areas, as you will find on the top and back of this exceptional Prototype Run Rietbergen. It just doesn’t get any better…The instrument is quite resonant acoustically, with nice lows, singing highs and great sonic clarity
The 25&½” scale neck is highly figured flamed mahogany with a figured Ebony fingerboard. It has Mother-of-Pearl and abalone Dolphin inlays. The humbuckers are Harry Haussel 59’s, have great bottom and just sing out loud. Controls include 1 Master Volume and 1 Master Tone with a Push / Pull for coil tap. Ebony pickup-rings, knobs, toggle tip and tuner buttons with gold hardware round out this special early Rietbergen.
Nik’s necks have an outstanding feel. The have a nice depth at the 3rd and 12th fret, feeling like a nice ‘59 carve, but not too massive to hang on to. Just feels right. The fret work is always outstanding, not overbearing. Intonation is perfect. Appointments and details show a pride of workmanship unlike any of my builders.
This is from the Proto Run, #7 of 12 made, - until coming to Artistic Guitars.
