All of Tom's guitars are first rate, so when Tom says this is one of the finest guitars he has ever made, you know it's special. Created by Tom Ribbecke, this "Cello Maple" 17" Monterey made use of specially acquired big leaf "cello maple", premium citka spruce, and the finest ebony and Koa woods with construction and voicing by the Master Guitar Craftsman. It is one of the last two built from Tom's "private wood pile" acquired from a Stanford University music professor who previously made cellos. There is not a knot anywhere in the closely-grained top, sides or back. With the extraordinary, highly figured wood, and special Koa bindings, Tom hand carved and graduated the top and back, voiced to slightly favor an acoustic usage model, while exhibiting excellent amplified tonality. The color is a warm, rich light amber similar to the "Zeidler Project Guitar". One of the finest archtops I’ve ever seen.
The sound and playability of this guitar is superb with balance thru-out the fretboard.
This prized instrument comes with a Ribbecke spec'd custom wound Bartolini floating pickup and an excellent Cedar Creek Custom Shop Alligator HSC.
